Moving To Substack
Why I decided to slowly transition to a different platform
Reddit isn’t for me
I do want to build a community where everyone will be able to share their thoughts and, ideally, learn some of the methods I use to my advantage. However, recent events involving certain pump-and-dump schemes have caused a large influx of bad-faith actors to swarm the subreddit, which has made certain decisions harder.
I haven’t binned the idea of a subreddit yet; I just need time to create a set of rules that allow criticism in but keep bad-faith actors out. Why is that hard? Look at all the other subreddits and answer honestly: “Are you sure that you’re talking to humans? Are you sure there isn’t a certain narrative being pushed onto you?”
How do you train someone to spot this?
I’ve been studying propaganda, crowd psychology, and marketing methods for close to 15 years, and I’ve done so extensively. I was fascinated with the idea of how masses of people could be influenced to do wrong, but more importantly, I was fascinated with figuring out how to prevent this.
Unfortunately, as many of you have seen, I haven’t found a foolproof solution.
But let’s cover some simple questions you might have.
1. What to expect
I will be slowly moving my work to Substack, where I will be writing different forms of work:
Satirical posts about certain companies and/or investments
Normal posts about certain companies and/or investments
My take on geopolitical and macroeconomic issues and how they affect investments
Posts about the various tools and methods I use to collect intelligence
Posts demonstrating how I apply mathematics, if time allows me to do so
2. Will this ever be paid?
The short answer is: Most likely no.
I started doing this partially because I like to have an outlet for my thoughts. It also helps me structure my thinking, and the people who know me understand what I mean by that.
The only situation in which I would ever consider making this a paid Substack would be if this hobby turned into a job or, simply, if I no longer had time to write and there was still demand.
However, if that were the case, I would still aim for the smallest price tag allowed by the platform, as I much prefer an ad-based revenue model over a subscription-based one.
3. My schedule
Currently, expect the lengthy posts to be available only on Substack. I plan to use Reddit/X for quicker updates or bite-sized pieces. I’m not promising anything, but I will try to post at least once a week.
4. Final thoughts
This is the very first post I’m writing here on this platform, and I must say that I’m already excited. Although Reddit might have a “bigger outreach,” the editor and the general UX of this platform are much more gratifying.
